Certification

CCT or CEH: Which Certification Should a Fresher Start With?

Freshers often ask whether to begin with EC-Council's entry-level CCT or go straight to CEH. Facts come from EC-Council's CCT page and EC-Council's CEH page (read November 5, 2026). Confirm both with EC-Council before booking.

Side by Side

  • CCT: 60 questions in 3 hours, multiple-choice and practical, 22 modules, no prerequisites.
  • CEH v13: 20 modules and a 4-hour exam; EC-Council recommends two years of IT security experience or official training. See our CEH v13 exam guide.

The Difference in Focus

CCT is broad and defensive: threats, networks, controls, monitoring, incident response and forensics at a foundation level. CEH is about how attackers work, across five phases of ethical hacking. CCT teaches you how a company is built and defended; CEH teaches how it gets attacked.

How to Decide

  • New to IT and networking: CCT first, or spend a few weeks on basics.
  • Comfortable with networking and Linux, and drawn to offense: CEH, then the CEH vs CPENT guide.
  • Drawn to defense: CCT, then CND.
  • Not sure: read what ethical hacking is and try the lab exercises in our guides.

A Certificate Is Not the Whole Plan

Employers also ask what you have done. Practice in a home lab and keep notes. Our resume guide for freshers shows how to present it. We do not promise placement.
